U.S. Coast Guard approves the historic White River Bridge project

The City of Clarendon has received a letter from the US Coast Guard approving the Aransas Highway and Transportation Department to donate the Big White River Bridge to the City. Up to this point, the Coast Guard had declared the BWRB “hazardous to navigation,” due to the placement of the piers of the new US Highway 79 Bridge. The Coast Guard’s approval comes as a major step forward in story of saving the Big White River Bridge.

While it is not the last obstacle the project faces, it has certainly been one of the largest. The Big White River Bridge Project is grateful for the support of many individuals who have worked tirelessly to bring us to this point and ensure this fine piece of history remains for generations to come.

Next Steps

We are now working with the US Fish and Wildlife Service in an effort to forge a partnership with the Cache River National Wildlife Refuge. We will keep you posted as this moves ahead.

Thanks so much for your continued support. Feel free to leave a comment or give us a call!
